Artist Reception at Block 7 Wine Company

Block 7 welcomed art and wine lovers to celebrate the wine company's decorative walls, curated by Cadence Enterprise, with an artist reception on Sunday, February 19, 2012. Featured artists included Justin Dunford, Anne-Joëlle Galley, Mitch Cohen, Allan Rodewald, Kelley Devine, Lindsay Peyton and Corbin Spring. Showcased work included large-scale paintings and 3D work.

Art Exhibit at Kaboom Books

Kaboom Books hosted an art exhibit featuring local artists Justin Dunford, Matt Messinger, Jessica Jacobi and Lindsay Peyton on Saturday, December 10, 2011. The works on display included small drawings and paintings which were matted and framed for sale.

Gateway Design hosted an open house and reception celebrating artists Anne-Joëlle Galley and Mariam Khalili on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. New owners Sanjay Parikh and Chris Norton expanded capabilities which originally focused on print media to a sophisticated firm that uses cutting-edge media and high techery to design, animate, code and deliver targeted results.

ARTISTS WE REPRESENT

Mariam Khalili    www.mariamkhalilifineart.com

Mariam Khalili creates abstract mixed media photography pieces in her home studio in Houston. Khalili was a musician and artist from an early age and later earned a BFA in photography. Her art is inspired by urban life and industrial images. Her main goal when creating a piece is to photograph something not typically considered attractive, display it in a new light. Khalili's work has been shown in various shows, including Bayou City Art Festival and FotoFest.

Anne Joelle expresses life and joy in her paintings, monotypes and prints. While her work is strongly influenced by Mexican art and the vibrant colors found in Mexico, Galley has spent many years traveling and studying art internationally. In Europe, she joined independent studios in Switzerland and London and attended art courses at Sotheby´s and ICA/Christies also in London. Later, in New York, she became a member of the Art Students League of New-York and participated in numerous group exhibitions. She had her first solo show in Manhattan, in 2002. Now, settled in Houston--where she studied at the Glassell School of Art and participated in the Art League of Houston--she continues to exhibit internationally and is very active in the Local Art Scene. 
She is also currently a member of the Visual Arts Alliance of Houston, Art Students League of New York and ISMA Estudio.

Jane Dipaolo was born in Philadelphia and majored in art at Rowan University in New Jersey. She currently teaches art and ceramics at the Kinkaid School in Houston. She draws inspiration from the journeys people take in their lives, the events that happen both big and small, and the unique characters you meet along the way.

Justin Dunford

Justin Dunford was born in Houston and is a self-taught painter. His love of storytelling compels him to create art and he has a special affinity for the mysterious and the odd. He is inspired by puppetry, comics, cartoons, pop-culture, graphic art and traditional oil painting. "My inspiration comes from many sources, and because of this I often mix different styles into my paintings,” he explains. “Puppetry, comics, cartoons, pop-culture, graphic art, and traditional oil painting are among a few of my recent general interests and influences.” He is also a member of Bobbindoctrin Puppet Theatre.
